Erdal Altuntas

Erdal Altuntas is a journalist, media manager and entrepreneur. Born in Istanbul in 1972, he has lived in Hamburg since 1992 and is one of the well-known figures of the Turkish community in Germany. His career, spanning more than three decades, combines media work, entrepreneurship and civic engagement.

His journalistic career began in Hamburg in 1993. From 1996 to 2002 he was a reporter at the Hamburg office of the daily newspaper Hürriyet, after which he took over the northern-Germany representation of Post Aktuel. For his reporting on social developments in Europe and the Balkans, he was named "Best International Journalist of the Year" at the 2024 Turkey-Europe Business Awards.

For many years, Erdal Altuntas has been active in civil-society organisations: five years as chairman of the Association of Turkish Journalists in Hamburg e. V., a board member of the European Sinop Association (ASİDER) since 2002, and active in the Germany representation of the Turkish Association of Internet Media (TİMBİR).

As founding chairman, he has led the Türkischer Arbeitgeber Bund Hamburg e. V. since its establishment in 2026. His aim is to connect entrepreneurs of Turkish origin in Hamburg and to strengthen their unity, solidarity and collective action in business.
